Is ‘A Monster Calls’ Okay for Your Kids to Watch?

The short answer is “maybe.”
But before you or your offspring decide to catch A Monster Calls at the theater, read our discussion guide. And pack tissues.
Movie Summary: A young boy deals with the possible loss of his seriously ill mother (new STAR WARS hero Felicity Jones) by befriending a giant tree monster who gives the boy strength, wisdom and hope. Acclaimed actress Sigourney Weaver stars as the grandmother, and Liam Neeson voices the monster in this movie that is guaranteed to touch your heart.
One reviewer put it this way, “This lovely film probably works best for mature tweens and teens, who — regardless of whether or not they have experience with grief — are likely dealing with their own adolescent demons and can relate. For adults coping with grief, this could be a tissue fest.”

“Belief is half of all healing. Belief in the cure, belief in the future that awaits. Your belief is valuable, so you must be careful where you put it. And in whom.” -The Monster
