The Director of Development works with the Executive Director providing strategic input, management, and coordination for all Wonders & Worries’ fundraising and donor relations efforts within the San Antonio region.

Position Summary: The Director of Development works with the Executive Director providing strategic input, management, and coordination for all Wonders & Worries’ fundraising and donor relations efforts within the San Antonio region. The Director will assist in planning fundraising strategies and campaigns that increase the organization’s support from individuals, corporations, foundations, and other sources. The Director of Development is responsible for oversight of day-to-day fundraising operations including prospect identification and research, cultivation, communications, and stewardship.  The Director of Development will review grant proposals, applications, and reporting in conjunction with the Wonders & Worries staff and Grants Manager. The Director of Development plays a key role in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting donors to increase awareness and support within the San Antonio region.

Role and Responsibilities 

Oversee Fundraising Activities 

  • Develop and execute an annual fundraising plan through collaboration with the Executive Director and Marketing team responsible for the area that increases revenue to support the strategic direction of the region and organization.
  • Monitor and evaluate all fundraising activities to ensure that the fundraising goals are being achieved. 
  • Monitor expenses and analyze budgets, income, and expenditures related to fundraising and the management of the Development activities in conjunction with the Executive Director, CFO and Grant Manager.
  • Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with major donors.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with new donors.
  • Oversee the planning, writing, and research of grant funding with Grant Manager. 
    • Work with the Executive Director and Grant Manager to create an annual plan for stewardship and growth from foundations and other grant-making organizations.  
    • Oversee and assist with the execution of this plan with the goal of building deeper relationships with existing grantors and growing the grantor base. 
    • Work with Executive Director and Grant Manager to review and submit all grant proposals and reports on time.
  • Work with the regional child life team and Outreach Coordinator to develop and manage relationships with top referring providers and potential donors and volunteers.
  • Oversee the management of Salesforce data and all processes and procedures for data entry and maintenance within the region.
  • Organize and oversee fundraising events in San Antonio, working in coordination with the marketing team, volunteers, and staff.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of fundraising strategies and principles
  • Excellent management and supervisory skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write compelling donor communications and marketing materials.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
  • Proficient in Salesforce

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 4+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, with a proven track record of success in major gifts, corporate and foundation giving, and special events or 4+ years of sales or business development experience with a proven track record of exceeding quota.
