Dr. Ramsdell’s Story

Dr. Bill Ramsdell had been a practicing dermatologist in the Austin area for several years when he began to hear about Wonders & Worries from other physicians who had lent their time and talents to the organization. He knew he wanted to find out more.

“As a doctor, I witness daily the anxiety, fear, and sorrow that a cancer diagnosis can bring,” he says. “I have come to understand that cancer, or any serious illness, is a family disease.” Bill became a Wonders & Worries donor both personally and through his business and has continued to support the organization for years since.

As a physician and business owner, Bill has always felt strongly about giving back to the community in which he practices. With so many worthwhile opportunities to help, he sometimes felt a little overwhelmed. He was pleased to support Wonders & Worries because it fills a unique gap in cancer care. “Just turn on the television and you will see many wonderful organizations asking for financial assistance for patient care and research,” he says. “Who is there to help the family members whose lives have been turned upside down?”

The opportunity to be able to interact with others who truly understand what you are going through seems so supporting and comforting.

Bill sometimes refers his own patients to Wonders & Worries, and has the opportunity to see firsthand the impact Wonders & Worries has on the lives of the children of an ill parent, particularly through the network of support families find at the organization. “The opportunity to be able to interact with others who truly understand what you are going through seems so supporting and comforting,” he says. This personal connection, and the knowledge that Wonders & Worries is helping families in his own community, is important for Bill. “Wonders & Worries is Austin-based, so we can donate our time as well as our money,” he says. “Besides, who else can support our neighbors better than us?”
